About David A Kipper, Ph.D. ABPP
David A. Kipper, Ph.D. is Research Professor of Psychology at the School of Psychology, Roosevelt University, and a licensed clinical psychologist (IL Lic. 071-002414). He is Board Certified by the American Board of Professional Psychologists (ABPP), the American Board of Examiners of Psychodrama, Sociometry, and Group Psychotherapy as Trainer, Educator and Practitioner (TEP), and a Certified Group Psychotherapist (CGP) by the National Registry of Group Psychotherapists.
Dr. Kipper's academic career began in Israel, at the Department of Psychology, Bar Ilan University, Israel (Associate Professor, head of the Master Clinical Psychology Program) and later as co-founder of the Diploma in Music Therapy at Bar-Ilan University. Prior to his appointment as professor at Roosevelt University he was associated with the University of Chicago teaching both clinical subjects and as faculty in the University Management Development Seminars.
Dr. Kipper has extensive experience in group psychotherapy and group work as well as consultant to management in business and industry. He is published widely, including a book (Psychotherapy Through Clinical Role Playing, NY: Brunner/Mazel, 1986) and over 70 chapters and articles in professional journals. He has been Co-executive Editor of the Journal of Group Psychotherapy, Psychodrama, and Sociometry (Heldref Publications) and a Co-executive Editor of the International Journal of Action Methods: Psychodrama, Skill Training and Role Playing (Heldref Publications). He serves on Journal boards as a Consulting Editor, e.g., Small Group Research (Sage), Group Dynamics: Theory Research and Practice (APA).
Dr. Kipper is a member of numerous psychological associations including a Fellow and past-president of the American Psychological Association, Division 49: Group Psychology and Group Psychotherapy, and a member of Division 12; Clinical Psychology. He is a Fellow and the past-president of the American Society of Group Psychotherapy and Psychodrama (ASGPP), a past Board member of the International Association of Group Psychotherapy (IAGP) and a co-founder of its International Psychodrama section, a Fellow of the American Group Psychotherapy Association (AGPA), and a member of the Association for the Advancement of Behavior Therapy (AABT), and the American Psychological Society. He is a past member of the American Psychological Society, the British Psychodrama Association (BPA). Currently he serves as the President of the American Academy of Group Psychotherapy.
Dr. Kipper's research interests are in the areas of role playing, small groups, experiential therapy, the relation between emotional arousal and action, psychological trauma, and general clinical research.
